As 2014 is coming to a close, a couple important items to keep in mind:
401(k) 2014 contribution limit is $17,500 IRA contribution for those under 50 is $5,500 IRA contribution, for those over 50, is $6,500 which includes a catch-up contribution allowed of an additional $1,000
If you use your home as your principal place of business to meet clients (customers) in the normal course of business, or your office is a separate structure not attached to your home, the amount of the flat home office deduction "safe harbor" ruling allows you to deduct up to $5 per square foot of home office space up to $1,500 per year.
